Chocolate cake is a classic dessert that is loved by many people. This rich, moist, and decadent cake is perfect for special occasions or just as a sweet treat to enjoy any day of the week.

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract.Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until well combined.

Gradually stir in the hot water, a little at a time, until the batter is smooth and well mixed.Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before removing them from the pans and transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

While the cakes are cooling, make the chocolate ganache. In a medium saucepan, heat the heavy cream and butter over medium heat until the mixture comes to a simmer.

Remove the pan from the heat and add the chocolate chips. Let the mixture sit for about 1 minute, then stir until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth.

Let the ganache cool for about 10 minutes before using it to frost the cake. To assemble the cake, place one cake layer on a cake plate or stand.

Spread a layer of chocolate ganache over the top of the cake.Place the second cake layer on top of the ganache and spread another layer of ganache over the top of the cake.

Use a spatula or offset knife to smooth the ganache over the top and sides of the cake. Decorate the cake with any additional toppings, such as fresh berries or whipped cream, if desired.
