For the Cream Cheese Frosting 

1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature, 8 oz cream cheese, at room temperature, 4 cups powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions 

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 2 (9-inch) round cake pans.In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, vegetable oil, buttermilk, red food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla extract.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

To make the cream cheese frosting, beat together the butter and cream cheese in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.

Once the cakes are cool, place one cake layer on a cake plate or serving platter. Spread a thick layer of frosting on top of the first cake layer.

Place the second cake layer on top of the frosting. Spread the remaining frosting over the top and sides of the cake. The cake is now ready to be served and enjoyed!
